The Most Common Questions on the Official Application Process

YÖK recognition, residence permit, language of instruction, annual fees and the document list — answers compiled by the Representation Office academic coordinators.

Is the diploma recognized in Turkey (YÖK)?
Yes. University of Belgrade diplomas are officially recognized by YÖK in Turkey. The recognition process takes 3-6 months on average; our office manages the entire process.
What is the language of instruction?
Most faculties offer programs in English and Serbian. Turkish students usually choose the English track. Serbian proficiency is not required.
Is there a preparatory year?
Students without English proficiency can attend a 1-year English prep program. Those with TOEFL/IELTS can enter directly into the first academic year.
What documents are required?
High school diploma (apostilled + sworn translation), transcript, passport, 4x6 photograph, birth certificate (Form A), residence certificate, criminal record certificate, language certificate (if available). The representation office coordinates all Turkish-Serbian/English translations.
What are the other costs beyond tuition?
Dormitory €80-200/month, food €150-200/month, transport €20. Total monthly living cost is €400-600, well below major EU capitals.
Can I work during my studies?
Yes. Student visa in Serbia allows part-time work. Hourly-paid positions are available on and off campus.
How is the Serbian student visa obtained?
After the admission letter, the application is filed at the Serbian Consulate in Türkiye. Required documents: passport, admission letter, criminal record, health insurance, statement of financial means. The representation office books your consulate appointment; the process takes 2-4 weeks on average.
How does the residence permit work and how is it renewed?
Within 30 days of arrival in Belgrade, you apply at the Foreigners' Office and receive a 1-year residence permit. Each year your residence permit is extended together with academic re-enrolment. All appointments and paperwork are coordinated by the representation office.
Is health insurance mandatory?
Yes, valid annual health insurance is mandatory for both the visa and the residence permit. Student annual premiums in Serbia range €80-150. The Turkish Hospital in Belgrade is on the contracted-provider list; private insurance options are also available.
Are there scholarships or discounts available?
As the University of Belgrade is a public institution, scholarships for international students are limited. However the annual tuition is already below the EU average. From the second year, partial discounts can be applied for based on academic performance; details vary by faculty.
How do I transfer money from Türkiye?
Annual tuition is paid via SWIFT transfer to the university IBAN. For monthly living costs: (1) Turkish bank card (Euro account) ATM withdrawals, (2) low-fee transfers via Wise/Revolut, (3) opening a local Serbian bank account (after residence permit is issued). The representation office guides you through all options.
Is there airport pickup and first-day coordination?
Yes, transfer from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport to campus/dormitory is organised by the representation office. Day one: dormitory placement, university registration appointment, SIM card, and Serbian bank account opening are all coordinated. A 24/7 Turkish-speaking support line is available for emergencies.
